Immerse yourself in the emerald highlands at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, where misty waterfalls, vibrant village life, and lush forests converge. Materuni is the home of the Chagga tribe and is still an authentic tribal village. This charming place is just 15km away from Moshi Town and is the last village before the Kilimanjaro National Park. Spend a full day in the green foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, where village life, coffee farming and forest trails come together. This private experience takes you to Materuni Village, a Chagga community known for its fertile farmland, traditional way of life and the impressive Materuni Waterfalls.
From the village, continue on foot through banana plantations, small farms and forested paths towards Materuni Waterfalls. The walk is part of the experience, with changing scenery and occasional views towards the surrounding highlands. At the waterfall, take time to relax beside the flowing water, enjoy the cool mountain air and have lunch in a peaceful natural setting.

Morning: Arrival & Village Discovery
Depart from Arusha or your lodge, winding through scenic highland landscapes to Materuni Village. Begin with a guided exploration of the Chagga community, gaining insight into traditional farming practices, coffee cultivation, and everyday village life. Marvel at the panoramic vistas of rolling hills and mist-kissed valleys while connecting with a living culture that has thrived for generations.
Midday: Trek to the Waterfall Oasis
Set off on a gentle trek along the forest paths, and wind through coffee terraces, lush vegetation, and hidden clearings. Here, pause and photograph the dramatic scenery, and take a refreshing dip in the natural pools carved at the waterfall’s base a rejuvenating reward for your journey.
Afternoon: Coffee Ritual & Highland Feast
Continue your immersion with a visit to a traditional coffee farm, observing the full journey from bean to cup. Engage in a hands on tasting session of freshly brewed coffee. Then, later enjoy a locally inspired lunch featuring authentic flavors, and cuisine offering a perfect blend of culture.
Evening: Scenic Return & Sunset Reflections
Travel back to your lodge or Arusha, carrying memories of a day filled with discovery and natural beauty. Optional stops at elevated viewpoints provide perfect opportunities to capture the golden hues of sunset over the highlands.
