Tarangire National Park makes a great choice for a private day safari, especially for travellers who want a close look at Tanzania’s wildlife without spending several days on the road. The park is known for its large elephant herds, old baobab trees and the Tarangire River, which draws animals from the surrounding areas during the dry months.
The day begins with an early departure from Arusha, driving through the countryside towards Tarangire. Once inside the park, your private safari vehicle heads into the quieter tracks where you can spend time watching elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, impalas and other wildlife. Lions are also seen in the park, often resting beneath trees or keeping a close eye on passing herds.
A picnic lunch can be enjoyed at one of the designated areas, giving you a chance to take a break while listening to the sounds of the park around you. The afternoon continues with more game viewing, with your guide adjusting the route depending on recent sightings and the movement of animals.
As the day comes to an end, you leave Tarangire and drive back towards Arusha, carrying with you a collection of wildlife encounters, photographs and stories from a day spent among some of northern Tanzania’s most distinctive landscapes.
