About
Horombo Hut (often called Horombo Huts) is the largest and most important hut-based campsite on Mount Kilimanjaro, playing a central role in successful ascents via the Marangu Route. Located high on a broad alpine plateau at 3,720 meters (12,205 ft), Horombo Hut is where climbers slow down, acclimatize, and prepare both physically and mentally for the most demanding stages of the climb.
Unlike Mandara Hut, which sits deep in rainforest, Horombo marks a dramatic transition into the heath and moorland zone, offering sweeping views of Kibo Peak and the jagged spires of Mawenzi Peak. For many trekkers, Horombo Hut is where Kilimanjaro truly begins to feel like a high mountain.
