Kibo Hut is the highest permanent accommodation camp on Mount Kilimanjaro and the final staging post before the summit of Africa’s highest peak. Sitting high on the Kibo volcanic cone at approximately 4,700–4,720 meters (15,400–15,500 ft), Kibo Hut is where climbers rest briefly, gather strength, and prepare for the most demanding night of the entire climb the push to Uhuru Peak.
Kibo Hut is located on the eastern side of Kilimanjaro’s Kibo volcanic cone, within the alpine desert zone of the mountain. It lies at the base of the summit cone, just below the crater rim, in a vast, barren expanse known as the Saddle the high-altitude plain between Mawenzi Peak and Kibo Peak.
